Baker/Chef Job Description Reports to: Café Owner Responsible for: this is a non-supervisory role Works with: all team members Hours: 20-35 hours per week, shift-based including some evening and weekend hours. About us: Dovecote - pronounced duhv-koht, is a structure for domestic pigeons or a harmonious group. The café’s name is meant to evoke a sense of communal nesting. In addition to enjoying the selection of food and beverages, we want our customers to sit, stay, and gather at the Dovecote Café. Dovecote Café is the newest addition to the Reservoir Hill neighborhood. The café officially opened this January! We offer freshly baked goods, micro-roasted coffee, daily curated lunch, renowned pies, weekend brunch, and a love of community! The 630 sq. ft. space has a seating capacity of 20 and endless “on-the-go” capability. Our mission is to be great neighbors. We are committed to providing a warm, friendly, and enriching environment (both physically and virtually) that inspires community engagement and pride. And of course serve great food! This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in a new adventure! About the Job: The Baker Chef is responsible for delivering exceptional internal and external customer service, with duties including, but not limited to: • Fulfilling the café’s mission; • Using precise measurements, heat, and timing to execute recipes perfectly; • Creating a friendly and respectful team environment; • Developing and executing a creative and tasty menu; • Assisting with food preparation; • Following Safe Serve practices; • Following and developing HAACP procedures; • Ensuring that all food and supply cabinets are stocked and cleaned in order to deliver food service; • Informing manager of low stock levels; • Washing dishes, as needed; • Ensuring food is served at the direct temperature and portion size; • Cleaning service, preparation, and storage areas using the appropriate chemicals provided; • Disposing of waste and recycling appropriately; • Projecting a professional image to all internal and external customers ensuring correct grooming and maintenance of the dress code; • Adhering to internal procedure, including opening and closing procedures; • Using appropriate handling and lifting procedures; • Ensuring all tasks are carried out in accordance with the café’s health, hygiene, quality, and safety standards; • Serving all food using the correct tools and presentation techniques; • Being friendly, approachable, and consistently having a good attitude; • Dealing with customer questions and requests in a personable and delightful manner; • Placing the customer first; • Promoting events and loyalty initiatives; • Managing food costs; • Taking appropriate precautions to minimize wastage; • Attending training courses and staff meetings; • Well versed knowledge of the menu, offers, and other pertinent café information; • Following the schedule as written; with minimal levels of tardiness and/or absenteeism; • Carrying out any other duties within the scope, spirit and purpose of the role as reasonably requested. About you: Suggested Skills and Experience • Extroverted, outgoing personality – makes friends easily; • Willingness to learn – displays intellectual curiosity; • Pervious restaurant/café/kitchen experience helpful; • Culinary degree, but not required; • Understands basic kitchen sanitation guidelines; • Able to communicate clearly and professionally with managers, team, and customers; • Able to reach, bend, stoop, and frequently lift up to 20 pounds; • Able to work in a standing position for extended periods of time. • Commitment to excellent customer service; • Ability to work quickly while remaining welcoming and friendly to customers; • Confident communicator, able to remain calm under pressure; • Ability to work independently and know when to involve others; • Be proactive about your own training and personal development.
