Job Summary: Under the direction of the Food Services Coordinator or designated supervisor, provides work direction to food service staff and volunteers and prepares and portions food items in a cafeteria setting at Minoru Place Activity Centre, a recreation facility for seniors. Supervisory Provides work direction, training and orientation to food service staff and volunteers Customer Service/Communication Able to independently cook complete hot meals and soups for up to 100 portions Prepare, portion and serve sandwiches, desserts, salads and other food items according to production requirements in a cafeteria setting and at special functions Operate cash register and hot/cold beverage dispensers Safety/Risk Management Prepare assigned food items for a cafeteria setting and special functions following menus, recipes and production schedules; assemble ingredients and equipment for cooking Cook and season food items such as soups, salads, meat, fish, poultry, vegetables and desserts by roasting, grilling, steaming, poaching, boiling, baking and bulk re-thermalization; slice meat and poultry; prepare beverages and food items such as coffee, tea and toast Check and document temperature of food items and cooler/freezer to ensure food safety, taste food for acceptability and store in appropriate containers and storage areas; maintain established food rotation schedule to minimize spoilage and waste Report unsafe equipment to supervisor or designate Clean and sanitize countertops, equipment and storage areas Participate in maintaining and developing work and food safe practices and procedures Administrative Determine food estimates; records leftover food items for future forecasting; order, receive and place food supplies in storage area; resolve discrepancies with suppliers Invoice catering functions; review food/non-food invoices, process daily cash register sales and float and catering costing; liaise with bookkeeper as required Strip, rack and wash items such as pots, pans and utensils; operate dishwashing machine; stack and store clean dishes and utensils Portion food items to yield assigned quantity quota Plan preparation and cooking schedules Participate in formulating and updating departmental procedures; attends Centre meeting as required Responsible to fill out accident report forms Other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: Completion of a one year program in cooking and one year related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience Basic and advanced food safe certification Hours: Part time Salary: $14.95 per hour as per Richmond Communities Associations' Job Evaluation.
