What we do: Childcare: Our Child Development Programs currently serve over 350 children with high-quality child development and after-school enrichment at sites in the Bayview, Hayes Valley and the Haight, and through our home-based program. Job Training: Each year more than 1,000 job seekers receive critical job readiness training and placements through our One Stop Jobs Program in Visitation Valley. Family Support: Our Healthy Families Program provides parents the tools they need to build better parenting skills and achieve greater family cohesion. Our Father’s Program reaches out to low-income fathers, helping them transform their challenges and re-connect with their children Job Summary: Prepares food daily and selects ingredients. Cooks meals in a timely fashion. Provides supervision and training of nutritional program. Develops menu plans for each month. Keeps up sanitation of cooking, storage and serving areas. Supervises assistants. Reviews meal preparation and meal count reports for accuracy and timeliness. Prepares program reports. This position is non-exempt and reports to the Director of Operations. Pre-emplyment background check and TB testing required. Program Summary: FACES SF has designed its nutritional program to support the healthy developmental needs of children. This means that in addition to provision of balanced, healthy meals and snacks, the center strives to educate children about healthy diets, eating habits and appropriate family style table manners. To do this we actively promote staff training about the nutritional components of healthy, balanced meals and positive table activities to encourage children’s learning about foods and eating habits, as well as their acceptance of new foods. Our nutritional program uses the healthiest ingredients and a wide variety of seasonal produce, whole foods and grains. Our menu planning avoids foods that contain unnecessary chemicals, sugars and salt. Qualifications: • Have experience cooking healthy food for large groups • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; • Possess and retain a valid California Driver’s License; • Have the ability to lift 50 pound boxes • Have to ability to work independently and follow directions. • Ability to speak read and write English • Must be willing to get additional training at the discretion of supervisors • Must be willing to do other duties assigned by supervisors from time to time • Passion for the mission of FACES SF and an interest in working with children and families served by the organization. Responsibilities/Job Duties: • Order and keep track of food and supplies from Costco, produce market, etc. • Cooks and prepares breakfast, lunch and snacks for up to 250 children daily • Places meals and snacks on correct carts on time for delivery to classrooms • Delivers the food to the classrooms • Unloads produce food items and other supplies to the supply room and food storage • Properly cleans and stores all kitchen utensils, plates, pots and other kitchenware • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and local guidelines and regulations • Supervision, training and evaluations of kitchen staff and food program assistants at each site • Coordinate maintenance of kitchen, transport and service equipment • Helps with coordination of related on-site activities at sites • Coordination of periodic heavy cleaning, if necessary • Heavy lifting of produce and other food cartons • Food and meal service inventory • Supports Assistant Cook with lunch and mail delivery to other sites, as necessary • Supports other tasks and special night events as needed Qualities/Desired Skills: • Positive attitude and hardworking individual • Punctual, reliable and flexible with changes • Achievement, detailed and customer oriented • Good knowledge of nutritional and healthy cooking and meal preparation • Knowledge of sanitation and food storage methods • Focus on teamwork and cooperation • Good problem solving skills • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks simultaneously; • Ability to maintain supply inventory and equipment in good condition; • Ability to supervise, motive and inspire kitchen staff Physical Requirements: • Demonstrate the ability to meet and maintain State of California Community Care Licensing requirements, federal, local and FACES SF guidelines including, but not limited to fingerprint clearance, negative TB test, and employment physical. • Frequently lift a range of weight from ten (10) to fifty (50) pounds to carry materials. • May occasionally require ability to safely climb ladders • Drive to and from different sites and locations Benefits: Excellent benefits package including medical, dental, and life insurance, as well as pre-tax benefits and vacation and sick leave and employer sponsored, matching 403(b) plan.
