The UCCC Society Cook plays a vital role in our Centre. You will plan, prepare and serve nutritious snacks and meals for our 109 children. Main duties include: - Preparation and service of food for the meals and snacks as scheduled and for other special occasions as requested - Weekly ordering of food through various suppliers - Storing and stocking and rotation of food - Cleaning duties pertaining to maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and dishes, and all kitchen equipment - Ensuring the efficient operation of the UCCC Society nutrition program Responsibilities- - Prepare/cook the food for scheduled meals, snacks and other occasions, as requested, according to the menu plan; prepare/cook appropriate food for those on special diets as required - Serve meals at the specified times - Clean all dishes, utensils and equipment used in the preparation and service of the food - Clean all stoves, refrigerators, freezers, cupboards, pantry and all other equipment and areas that are associated with kitchen’s food service - Clean storage areas and refrigerator/freezer units - Receive and store deliveries/food in proper areas and according to policy. - Fulfill other assignments as delegated by UCCC nutrition committee. - Must be willing to participate in staff meetings and professional development days and other related training Qualifications: • Must be willing to be the heart of our centre and put care and dedication into providing healthy nutritious meals for our children • Must be able to work well in a team environment and communicate well with colleagues and families • Ability to communicate in English, oral and written • 2-4 years kitchen/cooking experience and/or training and knowledge of equipment used in the preparation of food • Able to lift up to 50lbs • Knowledge of health standards for the handling and storage of food • Knowledge of nutrition standards and special diet requirements • Knowledge of occupational Health and Safety Standards • Valid Food Handler’s Certificate Salary to discussed at interview.
