We're a brand spanking new gastro pub in Michigan City, IN. It's about an hour drive or South Shore train ride from Chicago. Or, if you're looking to get away from the taxes and gridlock in the big city, this a very refreshing change of pace. Construction is on schedule and should finish up in June. Sous Chef Job Description: Supervise the production, preparation and presentation of all foods for the restaurant Supervise and conduct the ordering, storage and inventory of all food, small wares and disposables for the restaurant. Supervise human resources in the production and preparation areas of the kitchen Monitor and control the maintenance/sanitation of the kitchen and equipment Monitor and control all labor and food costs through scheduling, training and supervising the production of the food Assist in the creation and planning of menus and daily specials Job requirements: This position requires advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the food profession. This includes experiential knowledge required for management of people and/or complex problems and food and beverage management. The ideal candidate will have one to two years of post high school education; a Culinary degree is not necessary, but preferred. Bi-lingual (Spanish) is helpful, but not required. Candidates are required to have good oral and written communication skills and must have excellent comprehension and literacy. Moderate hearing and excellent vision are required to communicate with employees and for safety reasons. Experience required is from two to three years of employment in a related position.
