My name is Makenna and I’ve been a vegetarian since I was 15 years old and vegan for the past ten years. I have been working in restaurants since I was a teenager and am also a trained pastry chef! I believe I would be a great fit for this role because I have extensive knowledge in both vegan and gluten free cooking and baking. I love all types of food and enjoy creating inventive flavorful dishes. As much as I love sweets I am health conscious and have a basic understanding of nutrition and how to balance a meal properly. I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest so I learned how to cook drawing inspiration from seasonal and regional ingredients. I think it’s important to limit our waste and am always looking for ways to repurpose vegetable “waste”. For example, I just had fennel stalks left over from roasting so I candied them to make a fun treat- it tastes like black jelly beans! I also enjoy homesteading practices: canning, pickling, making jams and jellies- I’ve even brewed my own kombucha. I love to cook because I love the feeling of creating something that brings others happiness and satisfaction. Along with my cooking experience I'm also knowledgeable in food costing, price comparison, menu planning, prep scheduling, food safety, vegan ingredients and allergies.
